Competition - Mock Ups

What's happening:

  • Fixed the headphones on the main animation
  • On premier, applied them to mock ups successfully

Going well:

  • The mock ups have had a very good response
  • Honestly very content with the end product so far
  • Communication is going well - We have been able to talk everyday and help each other. I was able to help Alisha use the effect tools to distort the clip and Alisha helped me fix a glitch

Improve on:

  • Need to make sure that we use different mock up pictures for the other animations so the campaign isn't do repetitive
  • Move on to the campaign

Compeition- Vertical Animation

What's happening:

  • Vertical Ads finished

Going well:

  • I picked this format because it suits the ads on tube elevators as well as mobile devices
  • We are progressing quickly

Improve on:

  • If i had more time, I would clean up the storyboard
  • No negative feedback on these - I think they do their job at interpreting the originals concept for a shorter time

Competition - Beetle Key frames

What's happening:
  • Keyframes for the main animation done, ready to pass on to Alisha
  • Moving onto the vertical ads
Going well:
  • The animation is pretty smooth even without the final inbetweens being added
  • Colours look nice and bright
Improve on:
  • This version of the scene still needs to be edited on premiere for the zoom at the end, etc

Competition - Background Characters - Vertical Ad Options

What's happening:
  • Backgrounds completely done
  • On target for timing
  • Vertical ad storyboards agreed on
  • Background characters finished

Going well:
  • For the animation, the train has to move into the background so painted the front of the train and fixed the background.
I think I matched her brush strokes pretty well
  • The background characters are animated on a loop because I thought they might be useful for the crowd scene

Improve on:
  • The moving background characters look too busy when layered on top of each other so we will use a stylized blur to show the crowd
  • Start production on the vertical ads
  • Need to find images suitable to use for mock ups

Competition - Character Shift and Backgrounds

What's happening:

  • Backgrounds - Finished the backgrounds for the anteater animation after getting the sketches approved
  • Animal change - We decided to follow feedback and shift the monkey and anteater to insect designs for continuity.

Going well:

  • Team work - I used the rendering of cars Alisha made on Maya to keep my perspective right
  • Keeping to the colour palette we agreed on
  • I like the texture of the finished backgrounds
  • Switching the monkey to an insect was very easy because of the simple way we have drawn them

Improve on:

  • Need to start production
  • Keep referring back to the guidelines.

competition - Animatic (monkey)

What's happening:

  • Finished the animatic

Going well:

  • Progressing smoothly

Improve on:

  • I deviated from the storyboards to add in a shot of the monkey grabbing the phone because we need to follow the brief and give consistent visual ques across the campaign
  • We need to come up with variations for the campaign
I will come up with alternatives for shorter ads in a different format

Competition - Animatic (Beetle)

What's happening:

  • Finished the bug animatic
  • Divided the work load up

Going well:

  • Really good feedback - she liked all the scenes
  • Alisha has finalised the characters
  • making good progress
  • Good communication

Improve on:

  • No improvements on the animatic

Competition - Developing Characters

What's happening:

  • Developing the characters
  • Keeping the bug character more oval than round to make it less child-like to appeal to our demographic

Going well:

  • Characters have very unique silhouettes - they should be recognizable and good for a national campaign. Suitable for use in possible future campaigns too
  • I think Alisha will take the lead on characters while I move on to the animatic

Improve on:

  • Possibly move away from the animal kingdom? From feedback, we might lean more to just bugs as a theme

Competition - Background concepts

Things going well:

  • We used research into old Audible campaigns to strengthen our decisions for the brief. Audible had used animals before so we felt that it was a good idea to continue this and make it so anyone could see themselves as the character.
  • We made audible applicable to the 25+ age group by putting it in situations like commuting to work or grocery shopping. I feel like we are hitting the brief.
  • I started sketching ideas for the backgrounds, focusing on suiting it to the animal theme.
Improve / To do:
  • Figure out how to make the characters pop against the dark blue backgrounds - make some concept art to help test ideas.
  • Finalise characters.

Competition - Starting off

Things going well:

  • Looked at briefs with my team and assessed the limits and needs of each one to determine the best fit for our ideas and deadlines. We made a mind map to explore ideas as we went through
  • Picked a brief and made a summery of the goals of the brief
  • Made a Gantt chart to breakdown the work flow over the next couple months and split responsibilities between us
  • Made a mood board to help visualise what kind of style was appropriate and meld our aesthetics
  • Wrote the script to guide the storyboard Alisha is going to start. I read the scripts for Shaun the Sheep to help me write effectively without any dialogue.
  • Started working on character designs.

Improvements / Need to do:
  • I am unsure of what kind of background would work best with these black silhouette characters. I think some experimentation and talking with Alisha will help.
  • Try to be more consistent with the characters so they all fit in the same world together. Finalise turn arounds.
  • Start collecting sounds for the animatic.
