- We have finished and submitted our campaign
- Overall I am very happy with end product
- We kept checking the brief requirements to make sure we used each buzz word and referenced our thought process

Competition - Campaign
Documentary 13
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Finished animation!
Passed the credits off to be added - Trailer is finished - Really love how all the phones suit each other
Going well:
- I think all the different styles came together really well
- I'm very proud of this project
- I think the participants will like it too
Improve on:
- Nothing!
- If I were to do it again, I would be way more involved with the editing process or, if I could have prepared to lose use of laptop and access to some programs, I would have taken part in the lip sync animation for the sake of the work being more evenly distributed. I want to always pull my weight in a team and feel that the technical difficulties meant the other two had to support me more when I got delayed and couldn't edit.
I appreciated their support!
Documentary 12
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Editing! - Screen sharing on video calls are totally not working
The lag is too bad so we can't give Laura accurate feedback
However, she keeps uploading a rendered version after each batch of changes which is really helpful! - Trailer - making little phones to use instead of reusing scenes
- Art book and Press Pack in full swing
Going well:
- I love my little phone animations
- Everything is coming together nicely -I think we met our goals
- Communication is the best it's ever been! Everyone is happy
Improve on:
- Nothing really!
- End is in sight!
Documentary 11
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Problem solving scene
- Starting to talk about the press pack and art of book
Talking about ideas for the trailer
Going well:
- Dust scene finalized - It takes too long for the dust to rise and a double sweep of the hand looks odd. Instead, we are going to delay the hand movement till a second later and then zoom into the initial dust cloud in premier. This will look more seamless than drawing each frame.
- Switched dust background to a road
Improve on:
- Need to put everything together on the animatic
- For the motorbike I want to have it tilt up to help bring more energy to the scene
we can do this on premier - On this laptop I don't have premier. Originally, I was going to lead on editing since it's something I enjoy
Instead, I will make sure we are all talking and editing together through screen share - The hand would look better with more frames to make the movement natrual like the wrist turning
I do not have time to do that but in the future I would focus on improving that
Documentary 10
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- More scenes being done
- Animatics are going along nicely but I need to contribute more quickly
Going well:
- Really good feedback on the armpit hair movement on the motorbike scene - feeling more positive about my work
- Really happy with everyones work
Improve on:
- Motorbike
Keyframes --> The arm movement is too slow and awkward but I realized that it won't be seen on the actual animation as that is the time the bike takes to come into frame.
Added steam to give it more energy - Biggest issue at the moment is the postcard scene - it's very long and this laptop struggles to run it smoothly all the time so the timing keeps going way off.
- Weird glitch on the animatic but it's not always there
- The dust transition is difficult to make work- going to try out a couple ideas and follow team feedback
Documentary 9
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Getting through scenes slowly
- Made improvements
- Really happy with the credits - it suits the banners Laura made
Going well:
- The petal flows down in a soft way which I like
- Credit scene has had good feedback, I recolored the block shapes.
Improve on:
- Recolour petal scene because the light source kept switching. I also cleaned it up a bit
- Need to move on to the next scenes quickly, feel like i'm running out of time
Documentary 8
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Computer failure! Feeling frazzled and no luck getting help due to corona
- Support from team is good
Going well:
- First scene done
- Have got a laptop in a few days and have ordered repair parts
Improve on:
- Felt very stressed due to technical difficulties but have sourced another laptop on loan. I need to dive into the project again asap
- It's a little less than refined but due to having no laptop right now I need to move onto the next scenes as soon as. I think, if i have time, i will come back and add a few details. On the other hand, the scene is so quick and the scruffiness makes it feel like crayon which I don't mind.
Documentary 7
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Backgrounds finished
- Moving forward and having frequent chats about film
Going well:
- The noise filter gives the collages a nice grainy touch and helps make them feel a bit more uniform.
- We are starting to find a balance among all of the different styles we are trying to incorporate
Improve on:
- Need to start production!
- Decide what color palette to use
- Used a image that I wasn't allowed to - I need to double check all the copyright licenses
- Update the drive more frequently
Documentary 6
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Improvements made on backgrounds - the feedback was that the railway wasn't British enough and was too whimsical.
- Only a few backgrounds left to do
- Copyright list is up to date
Going well:
- Team is feeling much more positive about the project after a meeting.
- Improvement on communication
- I'm going to do the credits animation
Improve on:
- Can't think of anything except to finish the backgrounds and move on
Documentary 5
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- More backgrounds approved
- Slight technical issues with laptop but they seem to be fixed.
- Making good progress
Going well:
- Concept art helping development - hopefully can incorporate these later
- Drive is being updated and folders are decently tidy (easier to see each others work while we are apart)
- Scenes have been divied up - this is great because now we can focus on getting through our chunks.
Improve on:
- Some backgrounds need to change to better suit the needs of the scene
- Need to move onto key framing scenes
Documentary 4
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Animatics finished - Really happy with the overall tone and pace of the animation
- First background approved - moving on to focus on developing the rest
Going well:
- Big visual difference between my background and the character background (what we were going for)
- Audio is almost finalized
- More roles given out (i am now on background and cataloging copyright while the others continue working on backgrounds and characters)
Improve on:
- Communication - It's much harder to stay on top of things when we aren't together but at the same time it's understandable
- Need to source more images
- Speed up production - we don''t reuse many backgrounds and each memory scene has a completely different style and movement. We need to work smart and quickly if we are going to achieve it.
Documentary 3
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Interviews recorded - started experimenting with editing them together
- Nailing down what kind of mediums we want to use
- Finally delegating tasks
- I'm doing the animatic once Sarah has finished the storyboards
Going well:
- We know collage will be a key part of separating past and present
- Got good feedback on the audio - Sarah is applying improvements to the next one
- Gantt chart has been corrected to fit the extension time granted
Improve on:
- We don't yet have firm roles - a pipeline would help handle how much work we have do
- Need to start collecting images to use and be conscious of copyright
Documentary 2
What's happening:
Going well:
Improve on:
- Coronavirus lock down - we can no longer work together in the same place which means the idea we were focused on is a no-go. We were going to paint physically on a chair or glass.
- Feel as though we have to restart the idea generation a little bit
- No responses (difficult to meet people now due to outbreak) BUT have got audio from people Sarah and Laura know
Going well:
- Started media tests - getting feedback and moving on from unsuitable ideas
- Group meetings still going ahead online
- Really want to use collage and multiple mediums
Improve on:
- Clarify if we are going to need characters
- Limited to people we know = lack of diversity in the subject group and feels like we might be a bit too in control of the content we will record because we know them
- Video chatting - difficult to focus and be on the same page, internet connectivity is temperamental etc.

What's happening:
Going well :
Improve on:
What's happening:
- Pitch Bible --> research and discussing ideas.
- Looking at styles / discussing medium
- Emailing and calling places to get people to interview
Going well :
- Reaching out for people to interview --> waiting for responses to emails and phone calls
Potential day care center we might be able to attend - Media tests have started
- Good response to our pitch bible - we are confident in our idea
Improve on:
- We need to really get some responses otherwise we can't move on to the next steps. Laura and Sarah are going to contact their family members since they have grandparents who fit our demographic.
- Not 100% on what questions we will use in the interview or what theme of questioning we want to lean on.
- We have a really diverse inspiration board so might need to narrow down what look we are going for or start brainstorming how to fit a few together

Going Live - Dirty Laundry Clothing Brand
Pre-Coronavirus
- Dirty Laundry is a bespoke clothing brand run by a VisCom student
- They want some animations to be used on their website and social media to add variation in the content they post
- The animation should blend in seamlessly with the established art style
- They want to be shown different ways to animate through the animations (to help them start to animate themselves in the future)
- 3 animations for social media
Using their pre-existing designs, I came up with a few ideas using basic animation where I could cover different ways to animate.
- Photoshop tricks - These types of animation would help get her used to the software and are easy ways to add movement to an illustration
- Pose to Pose 2D - Way more options and can execute complex animation .
- Straight Ahead 2D -
Coronavirus
- The clients brief had to shift due to the new limits
- Now just 1 animation going with their favourite idea
Going Live - Makeup
For this commission, I was asked to make a looping animation of a blinking eye for a make-up artist. It had to be suitable in format for instagram and be inspired by one of her looks. She wanted it to be heavily influenced by early 2000's anime and online dress-up games.
I have learnt that I really like working with small brands on short-term projects. I like talking to the client about what they want and then working independently. Short term projects allow for diversity in my portfolio but I do think, financially, they may be unreliable professionally.
